Green Collar Jobs: A Pathway Out of Poverty

by tdixon

Blue Collar, White Collar, now Green Collar. With the green movement taking over, more hybrid and biodiesel fuel cars are on the road. More solar panels are being added to buildings and homes across the nation to optimize efficiency and lower overall dependence on electricity and mainstream power methods. Grocery stores are even handing out reusable canvas bags for their shoppers. The idea of reducing, reusing and recycling became popularized several decades ago, but it has really become a way of life within the last few years. Knowing this, there is a foreseeable demand in the workforce for more Green Collar workers. Green Collar jobs are in essence “blue collar jobs that have been upgraded to address the environmental challenges of our country”, says the Chief Executive of Apollo Alliance, a team of environmental groups and labor unions hoping to change our economy’s focus to that of renewable energy. Considering the present state of our economy and its ever defeating recession, opening up more jobs to allow for the green movement to take hold isn’t a bad idea. People could be gainfully employed again and the economy’s infrastructure could be revised for the better and greener. Millions of Americans could be put to work installing solar panels, building wind turbines and much more. Not only would this solve some of the problems for the unemployed, but it would contribute to a saving grace for our ecosystem and environment as well.
